Jammu: In another notable example of community-based conflict resolution, Dr. Sonia Verma, Managing Director/CEO of Synergetic Green Warriors Foundation (SGWF), successfully facilitated the settlement of a highly sensitive family dispute that had reached a local police station. The name of the police station and identities of the individuals involved have been withheld to protect their privacy and dignity.
According to available information, the matter involved a 45-year-old woman and a 26-year-old unemployed युवक whose relationship had become a source of concern for both families. The young man’s family approached the police seeking intervention, alleging that he had incurred significant financial losses while maintaining the relationship, including the sale of personal belongings and even his scooter.
Considering the sensitive nature of the case and the possibility of long-term social and familial consequences, the police authorities sought the assistance of Dr. Sonia Verma, who has extensive experience in counselling, women empowerment, and family dispute resolution.
A series of detailed counselling sessions and discussions were conducted with the concerned individuals and their family members. During the proceedings, all parties were given an opportunity to present their perspectives and concerns. The emphasis remained on understanding the underlying issues, restoring family harmony, and preventing further conflict.
Following extensive deliberations, a mutually agreed settlement was reached. Both individuals voluntarily agreed that they would discontinue contact with each other in the future. As part of the understanding reached during the counselling process, the SIM cards being used for communication were surrendered and removed, and the mobile phones were reset in the presence of the concerned parties. It was further agreed that any future contact in violation of the settlement would invite appropriate legal action as warranted under the applicable provisions of law.
